Responsibilities


Position Summary

The Manager of Safety Management System (SMS) is responsible for the overall management of the PSA SMS. This includes overseeing the advancement of the PSA SMS, responsible for Risk Assessments, Change Management and the policies/procedures established around the SMS. This position will create and oversee SMS training throughout the company. The successful Manager will be a team player possessing excellent communication and organizational skills.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage the PSA Safety Management System (SMS) covering all areas of the Company.
  • Responsible to create, update and maintain the SMS policies, procedures and training for all company employees and all external vendors.
  • Update and maintain the PSA Safety Policy and Procedures (SPPM) Manual.
  • Facilitate the drafting, completion and finalization of all SMS Risk Assessments and Management of change forms.
  • Oversee and conduct safety risk management on the following:
  • Implementation of a new system.
  • Revision of existing system.
  • Development of operational procedures
  • Identification of hazards or ineffective risk controls through the safety assurance processes.
  • Input and maintain all of the SMS documentation into the SMS database (WBAT).
  • Conduct a biweekly conference call on SMS to discuss relevant Risk Assessments in each of the working groups.
  • Conduct an annual review of the SMS to evaluate the performance of the system with all working groups.
  • Monitors the effective implementation of policies, procedures, and programs through the Safety Assurance Process.
  • Present Safety Assurance information to the SMS (data analysis groups/standards board meetings.
  • Conduct and oversee the completion of comprehensive risk analysis, audits, observations, and works with management to develop mitigation strategies to address root causes.
  • Conducts Safety Investigations of significant operational mishaps and performs Safety evaluations at facilities to proactively identify and mitigate safety and health hazards.
  • Lead, train and oversee the Maintenance Safety and Compliance Specialists.
  • Oversee the Maintenance Root Cause Analysis Investigations (RCA’s) and coordinate with CASS.
  • Analyzes safety event data gathered to develop and improve safety programs and initiatives.
  • Develops and distributes safety articles, alerts, and briefs to communicate critical safety information.
  • Represents PSA at industry meetings and exchange industry safety information.
  • Lead and facilitate the SMS Data Analysis group and Standards Board meetings.
  • Lead and facilitate the Company Standards Board (CSB) meetings.
  • Supports the company accident/incident and injury?reduction efforts by developing proactive and educational safety programs and by sharing safety data and trends to reduce the frequency and severity of mishaps.
  • Assist with the OSHA Management and tracking of injuries.
  • Share injury data with the SMS groups and different injury taskforce meetings in the company.
  • Coordinate, track and report all injury/illness, accident, and incident reports.
  • Prepare and distribute reports to federal, state, and local safety authorities as required.
  • Oversee the company safety committee meetings.
  • Conduct various safety promotional presentations to increase the knowledge and awareness of the PSA SMS program and support departmental safety promotional efforts as needed.
  • Develop and issue relevant SMS communication throughout the company.
  • Responsible for New Hire/Recurrent Safety presentations for all new Employees.
  • Assist the Director of Safety in the Emergency Response program.
  • Participates and works as a Go Team Member in an event of an accident.
  • Interface with the FAA, union representatives and management employees regarding safety issues and the SMS.
  • Maintain positive and proactive relations with all levels of management and employees, as well as our customers and regulatory agencies.
  • Responsible for the SMS portion of the International Air Transportation Association (IATA) Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) and the Department of Defense (DOD) audit.
  • Responsible for the Company's Security and Safety Management System (SMS) and associated Safety Risk Management and Safety Assurance outputs
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Specifics


Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation or Aviation Safety.
  • FAA Airman Certificate (A&P preferred).
  • Advanced technical degree in safety, engineering, or aviation-related field or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the airline industry.
  • At least 3 years of safety program experience.
  • Accident investigation and/or safety program management experience.
  • Outstanding leadership and management skills required.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to speak/read/write in English.
  • If hired, must be able to demonstrate that you are authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Previous managerial experience.

Additional Information

Delegation: In absence, responsibilities delegated to Director of Safety.

Authorities: None

Supervisory Responsibility: This is a supervisory position.

Work Environment: This job operates inside a climate-controlled building. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, facsimile machines and filing cabinets.
