JobSummary:
Electrical Subject Matter Expert (SME) with 10+ years ofexperience in offshore oil & gas installations, covering projects,operations, turnarounds, and advanced electrical technologies. Positionrequires expertise in low voltage (LV), medium voltage (MV), and high voltage(HV) systems, as well as advanced technologies such as variable frequencydrives (VFDs), power generation, power distribution, and electrical safety inhazardous environments.
This role requires deep technical knowledge, problem-solvingabilities, and hands-on experience with electrical systems across greenfieldand brownfield offshore assets. The Electrical SME will serve as a key resourcefor troubleshooting, project execution, operational improvements, and riskassessments.
Key Responsibilities
1. Electrical Systems Expertise
- Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertisefor offshore low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems (e.g., 480V,6.6kV, 13.8kV).
- Oversee and optimize the operation of power generation,electrical distribution, and protection systems in offshore environments.
- Ensure proper application and integration of VariableFrequency Drives (VFDs), UPS systems, power management systems (PMS), andSCADA.
- Manage electrical load studies, arc flash analysis, andpower quality assessments for offshore facilities.
- Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for electricalfailures and implement corrective actions.
2. Project & Turnaround Support- Support the design,engineering, and commissioning of electrical systems for offshore facilities,FPSOs, wellhead platforms, and fixed installations.
- Provide electrical input formajor capital projects, brownfield modifications, and tie-backs to existinginfrastructure.
- Lead electrical scope inturnarounds, shutdowns, and maintenance campaigns, ensuring efficient executionand safety compliance.
- Develop and review technicalspecifications, engineering packages, and work scopes for electrical projects.
3. Operations & Maintenance- Support offshore operationsteams with troubleshooting, maintenance, and performance optimization ofelectrical equipment.
- Develop and implementpreventive and predictive maintenance strategies for offshore electricalassets.
- Ensure reliability and redundancyof offshore power generation and distribution networks.
- Assist in interfacing withrotating equipment, motors, and transformers to ensure operational efficiency.
4. Electrical Safety & Compliance- Ensure compliance with industrystandards (API, IEC, IEEE, NEC, NEMA, DNV, IOGP, and ABS) as well as localregulatory requirements.
- Drive electrical safetyprograms, including hazardous area classifications, ATEX compliance, andintrinsically safe (IS) systems.
- Lead electrical safety audits,risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Provide offshore personnel withtechnical training and mentorship in electrical safety and maintenance bestpractices.
5. Advanced Technology & Innovation- Evaluate and implement emergingelectrical technologies to improve efficiency and reliability in offshoreoperations.
- Support integration ofElectrical Power Management Systems (PMS) and smart grid applications inoffshore environments.
- Work with vendors andengineering teams to optimize topsides and subsea power systems, electricalheat tracing, power generation, and automation.
- Test and commissioning ofpackages and electrical systems
- International and domestictravel is required.
Qualifications(Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):BasicQualifications- Bachelor's Degree in ElectricalEngineering;
- Ten or more yearsof experience in offshore oil & gas projects, operations, and maintenance;
- Expertise in lowvoltage (LV), medium voltage (MV), and high voltage (HV) power systems;
- Strong knowledgeof power generation (Diesel and Gas Generators, Boilers, switchgear,transformers, MCCs, and VFDs);
- Experience with electrical protection schemes, fault analysis, and coordinationstudies;
- Familiarity withSCADA, DCS, and PLC-based power management systems (PMS);
- Hands-onexperience in turnarounds, shutdowns, and brownfield electrical modifications;
- Knowledge ofhazardous area classifications, explosion-proof (Ex) equipment, and offshoreelectrical safety;
- Strong backgroundin reliability engineering, failure analysis, and electrical troubleshooting.
PreferredQualifications- Licensed (P.E.) or Chartered Engineer (CEng)preferred;
- Industry Certifications: IEEE, IEC, API, NEC,ATEX, ISA
Soft Skills & Leadership- Ability to lead cross-functionalteams and work in high-risk offshore environments.
- Excellentproblem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Strongcommunication skills to collaborate with engineering, operations, and HSEQteams.
- Experiencementoring junior engineers and technicians.
WorkingConditions:- Remote/Hybrid schedule, depending onproject and operational needs but also requires occasional travel to off-site domesticand international work locations;
- Offshore oil & gas facilitiesenvironments;
- Field duties require outdoor work in aconstruction site type atmosphere;
- Interaction with other team members,as well as supervisors and client personnel;
- Exposure to hazardous environments,high-risk equipment and extreme weather conditions;
- Must be able to wear safety equipmentas required by the safety department for personal protection;
- May be at more than one job site in aday and must be able to tolerate climate changes;
- May be required to travel out of townon a periodic basis.
