Position Summary
Assists Controller and Assistant Controller as needed and direct staff in compliance with day-to-day operations of the department. Oversees the direction of the Saul Centers, Inc. Accounting Department staff and complies with established Operating Policies and Procedures.

Accounting Manager's Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Reviews and approves accounts payable edits:
  • Manage day to day operations of accounts payable clerk
  • Ensure proper account classification
  • Ensure proper approval of invoice
  • Ensure accurate and timely payment in accordance with company policy

  • Assist in preparation of monthly operating statements:
  • Review month end tax recovery accruals from assigned accountant (s)
  • Explain utility expense and recovery variances to budget

  • Manage day to day operations of accounts receivable clerk
  • Manage day to day operations of property administrator
  • Reviews Consumer Price Index increases.

  • Manage day-to-day operations of department overseeing a current staff of nine:
  • Supervision of project accountants to ensure completion of daily responsibilities
  • Effective training of project accountants to include cross training of all functions.
  • Developing and nurturing a team of project accountants who are focused on the department’s priorities through daily interaction, staff meetings, coaching and counseling.
  • Maintain an effective relationship with the accounting staff

  • Review and ensure accurate and timely year end billing to tenants.

  • Review and distribute rent rolls:
  • Track pending leases to ensure timeliness of initial rental billing
  • Identify potential problems or issues and bring to supervisor attention

  • Assist in preparation of documentation from annual audit and ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley.
  • Maintain supplemental tenant receivable schedule for payment plans and deferrals.
  • Special projects as directed by Controller and/or Assistant Controller.

Accounting Manager, Selection Criteria Job Requirements (Skills/Abilities):

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • CPA preferred.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Prior public accounting experience preferred.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Working knowledge of applicable accounting standards and SEC reporting requirements.
  • Landlord / tenant accounting experience preferred.
  • Ability to interact with senior management.
  • Able to meet multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Analytical and Energetic with a “Can Do” attitude.
The actual base pay offered is determined by several variables, including, as appropriate, the applicant's qualifications for the position, years of relevant experience, distinctive skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held. Base pay is one component of Saul Centers Inc. total compensation package, which also includes access to or eligibility for healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, bonus plans and more.
