The Director of Student Accounts Receivable serves as the Bursar of the University and a critical member of the leadership team within Student Financial Services (SFS), a component of Enrollment Management functions at La Salle University. The Director has primary responsibility for planning, developing, managing, and administering programs that support the billing and collection of student accounts, ensuring that the University is compliant with all applicable federal and state regulations, and ensuring that regular cashier activities related to the receipt, deposit, and accounting of University funds is administered effectively, efficiently, and with an eye on customer service and system implementation. The Director works collaboratively with the Director of Financial Aid to run the Student Financial Services Center, ensuring that customer service needs are met and that a proactive approach is taken regarding all student financial matters. The Director also works collaboratively with the Director of Student Financial Operations to ensure that behind the scenes systems and operations are functioning smoothly and efficiently.
Essential Duties
- Directs the operational activities of the Student Accounts Receivable Office, including the accurate and timely collection of student accounts and accounts receivable. Responsible for cashier function including the security of funds, proper recording, timely depositing, and reconciliation of cash receipts.
- Ensures accurate and timely billing of student and third party accounts. Manages student refund processes, ensuring compliance with Federal Title IV regulations. Coordinates billing schedule and processes with appropriate offices on campus. Maintains functional expertise on the Ellucian Banner Accounts Receivable module. Supervises the eBill, ePay and eRefund processes and promotes these services to students.
- Monitors and manages all accounts receivable and collections including the implementation and maintenance of appropriate collections activities and efforts. Contracts with third party collection agencies for the collection of defaulted accounts and manages agency performance and related activities.
- Responsible for 1098-T reporting and the timely and accurate submission of information to students and the IRS.
- Ensure that rate tables for tuition and fees prior to each semester start.
- Continuously improve existing business practices as it relates to Student Account Receivable functions.
- Ensure accuracy of weekly reports for Accounts Receivable including outstanding receivables, credit balances, etc; prepare for distribution.
- Provide reports of students who are not up to date with their financial responsibilities, including payment arrangements and payment plans. Provide outreach to students and document results.
- Supervise collection efforts on delinquent accounts.
- Ensure compliance with internal control procedures and comply with federal and industry regulations.
- Demonstrate knowledge of federal and state regulations related to student accounts, including Title IV and FERPA.
- Review, suggest and implement best practices in Banner for billing, collection and student records and provide suggestions for streamlining or automating office processes.
- Represent La Salle University in a positive and professional manner, upholding its mission, vision, and values during all interactions with prospective and current students, their support networks, and other internal and external constituents.
- Ensure execution of student ID and parking systems including printing of IDs, ordering parking tags, ensuring accurate billing, and recommending changes and enhancements.
- Serve as a member of the Enrollment Management Leadership Team.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Provides necessary data and support for audit reports.
- Represents Student Financial Services on committees as needed.
- Other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President for Student Financial Services.

- Master’s degree in Business, Systems Analytics, Information Technology, or a related field, plus 5 years of applicable experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; must be detail oriented, highly motivated and an independent thinker.
- Demonstrated advanced experience with various spreadsheet and software applications including Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, Outlook, Argos.
- Previous experience working with billing rules and detail codes.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with challenging situations in a diplomatic and calm manner, maintaining customer service orientation at all times.
- Strong commitment to improving processes across departments.
- Demonstrated ability to manage time, work in a collaborative environment, and under specific deadlines.
- Demonstrated high level of proficiency and successful track record in ensuring data security and maintaining data integrity.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a higher education environment.
- Experience with Ellucian Banner software.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours
- Ability to lift, load, and transport student documents, materials, displays, and other equipment up to 35 pounds.
- Some evening and weekend work will be necessary during peak times.
