Position Summary

Ava is seeking to hire a full-time Power Resources Manager (Programs) reporting to the Power Resources Director within the Contracts Management Team. As part of the Power Resources team, this individual will work within the Power Resources team in addition to collaborating with the Local Development, Marketing, Finance, and Account Services teams on tasks related to the administration of contracts, project settlements, planning and reporting for various energy products procured and settled under different contract structures. Included in this role is managing the administration of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), load modification programs, and other contracts managing both supply and demand on the electrical grid. Ava is the largest CCA in northern California, providing over 7 TWh of electricity annually to serve a population of over 1.6 million. This role will be instrumental in operationalizing and managing a portfolio of bespoke projects and products in Ava's service territory to accelerate decarbonization goals.

Position Details
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Administer contracts that could include solar, storage, vehicle charging, DERs, and demand response products ensuring efficient and accurate management.
  • Address issues during contract administration recommending responses to commercial challenges and managing disputes.
  • Manage financial settlement of contracts for various products offering energy solutions.
  • Maintain adherence to legal, regulatory, and industry standards for all contracts, remaining updated on obligations and recommending improvements.
  • Develop and implement processes to manage contracts and financial settlements efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with their terms and regulatory obligations.
  • Effectively collaborate cross-functionally across Ava ensuring alignment and effective communication.
  • Lead internal and external project meetings, coordinating internally within Power Resources and cross-functionally with teams like Local Development, Finance and Marketing
  • Serve as a resource on contract management best practices, guiding staff on managing relationships with counterparties, consultants, and the public including assisting in best practices on unique contract structures.
  • Contribute to or lead negotiations for long-term contracts and offtake agreements.
  • Maintain knowledge of energy technologies, including: solar, storage, vehicle charging, DERs, and demand response products, to inform contract management.
  • Assist in regulatory compliance and multiple annual compliance filings as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Master's degree in business, engineering, economics, or relevant work experience
  • 5 plus years' experience in the energy industry with an electric utility, CCA, Power Marketer, DER platform, independent power producer, or renewable energy/energy storage developer
  • 5 plus years of contract management experience
  • 3 plus years of energy contract management experience focused on supply contracts
  • Strong understanding of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) contract structures and other energy-related contracts
  • Experience or knowledge in management of power contracts including but not limited to:
    • Renewable and/or storage resources
    • Community Solar project (<5 MW)
    • Electric Vehicle charging
    • DER platforms
    • Load Modification
  • Demand Response experience with Distributed Resources, vehicle charging, community solar programs
  • Power sector experience including knowledge of:
    • Wholesale electricity markets
    • Power generation technologies
    • WSPP, EEI, Power Purchase Agreements, Energy Storage Agreements and Tolling Agreements
    • Contracts management best practices
    • Power transactions and scheduling process
    • CAISO settlements process, charge codes, and application
    • CA Renewables Portfolio Standard
    • WREGIS
    • Power Source Disclosure
    • Resource Adequacy and Capacity
  • Familiarity with contract management tools and software
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, data manipulation, conditional formatting, and charting. Macros and VBA a plus
  • Experience with energy-related databases or analytics tools is a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
Compensation and Benefits
The annual salary for this position is $178,774, with a Total Compensation of up to $196,651 annually based on performance.

Location and Working Conditions
This position will be based in Ava headquarters in Oakland, near BART. Ava's team has a hybrid approach inclusive of in-office and remote work. This role is expected to go into the office Tuesdays, Thursdays and the first Wednesday of the month. We are not providing sponsorships currently.
