Prison Arts Collective
Overview
The Institute for the Arts, Humanities, and Social Justice (IAHSJ) at San Diego State University is a collaboration of the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts and the College of Arts and Letters. The IAHSJ is an interdisciplinary hub for research, creative projects, and community engagement at the intersection of the arts, humanities, and social justice. The Institute seeks to interrupt systemic injustices in access to the arts and education through cultivating dialogue and collaboration among faculty, students, and partners with a goal of building bridges across the university and community. This position will support the coordinators of two programs within the IAHSJ, Prison Arts Collective (PAC) and VISTA (Valuing Incarcerated Scholars through Academia). PAC currently facilitates arts and leadership training programs in 15 state prisons throughout California. PAC is based at San Diego State University and has partnerships with California State University, Fullerton; Humboldt State University, and California State University, San Bernardino. SDSU-VISTA offers a two-year BA degree completion program at Centinela State Prison.
Reporting to the Associate Director, the Program Assistant will provide support in the areas of program administration and day-to-day operations. The position will have both internal and external responsibilities, including assisting the ASC in the coordination of events and meetings, supporting program staff with administrative tasks, and ensuring smooth operations for the IAHSJ room on campus.
