RS&H is seeking a Senior Structural Bridge Engineer to join our Transportation Practice in our St. Charles, IL!

Job Summary:

RS&H is currently seeking a senior-level structural bridge engineer to join our team. This position will have the ability to work a hybrid schedule of in-office and remote. As part of the infrastructure team, you'll serve an integral role in the firm by serving as a team expert and/or project lead; preparing project specifications and complete project documents, analysis, and reports; analyzing and interpreting data; performing analyses of design, planning, and impact studies, as well as cost analyses, design requirements, site selection, and limited design layouts; designing complete projects, systems, components, and/or processes; preparing project documents, engineering analysis, and reports; performing quality control reviews and ensuring achievement of key milestones; and performing field reviews and observations of ongoing construction projects. This position may also provide technical guidance and assign tasks to junior and support staff for project duration, manage discipline and small multidisciplinary teams to ensure company and project contractual compliance, and/or manage a small team of direct reports.

Essential Functions:

  • Functions as design and/or document originator on all phases of transportation projects including structures such as bridges, culverts and retaining walls.
  • Prepares project calculations, drawings, specifications, compiles and analyzes relevant data, and prepares complete project documents, analysis, and reports.
  • Participates in bridge inspections, condition assessment, and development of bridge condition reports.
  • Performs detailed checking of drawings and design calculations for structure components.
  • Maintains professional registration and licensure.
  • May provide technical guidance and assign tasks to junior and support staff for project duration.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned and within scope of practice.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred) from an ABET accredited program, or equivalent experience, with an emphasis on structural engineering design.
  • 10 years of progressive structural engineering design experience in steel and concrete bridges.
  • IL Professional Engineer (PE) license in good standing
  • IL Structural Engineer (SE) license or ability to obtain license (preferred).
  • Must have the ability to effectively interact with and build strong relationships with internal multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Have proven ability to successfully address challenging or potentially controversial issues in a sound professional and business-like manner.
  • Have experience working on parts of major projects or multiple moderate-size projects, providing technical guidance to junior-level staff, including reviewing others' work for technical accuracy, and participating in the design and implementation of new services, processes, standards, and/or operational plans that had great impact on the achievement of functional results.
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills and have the ability to effectively interact with and build strong relationships with clients, customers, contractors, team members, and other key stakeholders.
  • IDOT and Illinois Tollway experience preferred.
  • Proficient in industry standard software including: Microstation/OpenBridge/OpenRoads, MathCad, LEAP Bridge, MDX, LPILE, and LARSA.
  • Must possess strong oral and written communications skills.
