Description

The NSS Software Center (SWC) team at Leidos currently has an opening for a Software Engineering Lead to work with our collaborative and innovative driven team. This position will support SWC initiatives and assist in building cutting edge solutions to solve complex problems with the right technologies, working through an agile development and release process to support critical customer mission goals. They will lead and mentor juniors to support research, engineering, and development of innovative solutions to support operational missions. This work includes engineering robust infrastructure, end-point capabilities, and cloud implementations.?The successful candidates will have the opportunity to work independently and as part of a team. This position is eligible for full-time telework, however, proximity to the National Capital Region is preferred, to meet occasionally with customers on-site. 

Our NSS SWC was created to build a cohesive software culture and enhance how Leidos conducts software development in the national security realm for IC and DoD customers. The NSS SWC serves as the critical link to connect advanced Leidos solutions with national security mission, creating forward leaning capabilities that align with unique customer challenges. 

The Software Engineering lead will be a part of combining experience executing mission-critical, enterprise-class operations with the latest advances in automation, infrastructure as code, and cloud computing to deliver high-quality solutions. In support of programs across the Leidos enterprise, the Software Engineer will develop, maintain and enhance complex and diverse software. 

Primary Responsibilities
•Work with the SW Center software teams, program teams, Line leadership, and CTO organization to identify software related technology and solution roadmaps to establish Leidos as a provider of choice for mission software across the National Security domain. 
•Support the establishment of NSS best practices, lessons learned, and technological approaches for all aspects of software development across the Sector. 
•Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, fostering an environment of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning. Guide junior and mid-level developers in their technical and professional growth. 
•Lead cross-functional teams in the design, development, and delivery of complex software systems. Manage project timelines, prioritize tasks, and ensure the team delivers on commitments.
•Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and architect scalable and efficient software solutions. Drive technical decision-making and design discussions to ensure alignment with overall business goals.
•Work closely with SWC Chief Architect, product managers, and other engineering teams to ensure alignment and successful delivery of software projects. Act as a technical point of contact for teams and stakeholders.
•Support software related proposals and programs are following the defined approaches or have documented and approved tailoring plans.
•Support across business lines and programs to identify how programs can be strengthened with application of technology and/or innovation.
•Attend and facilitate customer and technical engagements, when necessary, prepare content for technical off-sites, briefings. 

Basic Qualifications
•Bachelors Degree and 12- 15 years of experience in a Science, Engineering, or Technology field, or a Master’ Degree with 10-13 years of experience. 
•Skills should include knowledge of web services, SOA, REST, asynchronous processing, and/or database systems. 
•Experience leading software development projects using Agile principles
•Experience with design and implementation of software systems
•Experience on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and deploying applications to commercial clouds. 
•Knowledge of security concepts and implementations 
•Experience taking input from multiple sources and integrating it into coherent software 
•Experience working with Agile software development teams and implementing continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) and SecDevOps practices. 
•Excellent problem solving and analysis skills, including the ability to logically create structure and order from unstructured inputs. 
•Self-starter who can work independently while possessing the communication skills to work effectively with software development teams, customers, and senior Leidos leadership. 
•Recent experience within the National Security domain (Intelligence Community, Homeland Security, or Department of Defense) with an understanding of those missions and operating environments.
•Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact at multiple levels of the organization from program teams to Sector leadership. 
•Ability to mentor, lead, and promote talent.
•Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance for a position of trust within the US government. 
•Location: Washington Metropolitan Area with ability to travel to customer sites across the region if needed

Preferred Qualifications
•Experience supporting Business Development efforts within Leidos
•Experience supporting Internal Research and Development (IRAD) projects
•Leveraging AI/ML or generative AI in software development practices  
•Proven leader across the Software Development Lifecycle 
•Experience implementing solutions for multiple customers.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $126,100.00 - $227,950.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
