DESCRIPTION

Alternate Perspectives, Incorporated (API) has an immediate opening for a Counselor at one of our operated Job Corps Locations. If you want to be a part of dynamic team that helps young people ages 16-24-years-old, this job is for you! You will be a part of the nation’s most successful youth training and education program, Job Corps, for the past 60 years.

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a compassionate listener with excellent communication skills who is passionate about helping others. As a Counselor you are responsible for providing proper case management of students to ensure positive group living relations and achievement in the program. You also will be able to provide individual, and group counseling to our students, as well as develop and implement behavioral plans. The Counselor will also provide crisis intervention services, assess mental health needs, and offer additional case management services as needed.

Some Additional Essential Functions:

  1. Conduct personal intake assessments to identify student needs and develop strategies to meet them.
  2. Initiate and maintain an individual counseling folder on each assigned student.
  3. Provide support services to students with personal needs or problems, i.e., sickness, injury, family problems, leaves, and absence without leave (AWOL) retrieval, referrals to community resources, and conferring with parents and other staff as needed.
  4. Provide continuous educational, career technical student training (CTST), personal and social adjustment counseling on an individual and group basis; recommend necessary program modifications throughout each assigned student’s stay in conjunction with students and case management team.
  5. Review and update student’s personal career development plan (PCDP) and evaluations of progress. Point out areas of improvement. Conduct full case management panels as needed. Maintain documentation and records.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree including 15 semester hours of social services related instruction and one year related experience. Experience with youth, excellent written and verbal communications skills and computer proficiency required. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
