Responsibilities

We seek a dynamic Senior Rail Design Engineering professional to join our growing family. Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN) has built a strong reputation for providing program management, construction management, planning, and design services to significant transit authorities and Class I railroads in Texas and California. To support LAN's ongoing expansion, we seek an experienced Senior Rail Design Engineer with a deep understanding of rail geometry, rail operations, signaling, and PTC and a comprehensive knowledge of AREMA standards and guidelines. If you're passionate about the intricate world of rail geometry, track design, and the evolution of rail systems, we want to hear from you.

  • Provide oversight and direction for track geometry and track design on rail transit and freight rail projects.
  • Mentor and guide junior staff members.
  • Establish project quality expectations for rail and track design.
  • Effectively communicate rail and track project expectations to team members and stakeholders clearly and concisely.
  • Manage rail projects from inception to completion.
  • Draft and submit budget proposals and recommend subsequent budget changes where necessary.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
  • Cultivate, develop, and nurture business relationships critical to project success.
  • Create and implement best practices and tools for efficient track and rail project execution and management.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships, generate leads, position for projects, and assist in proposal preparation.
  • Possess familiarity with UPRR/BNSF Public Projects procedures and processes.
  • Adhere to AREMA Standards and Guidelines.




  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in track design.
  • Current professional engineer (PE) licensure in California and willingness to obtain PE licensure in Texas.
  • Membership in AREMA is a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Salary range for this position varies between $125,000 – $165,000, depending upon applicable experience.
