School of Dental Medicine Orthodontics Department laboratory is seeking a laboratory assistant to perform a variety of experiments and procedures including working with mice, preparing specimens, overseeing supply management, and operating and properly maintaining equipment.


Job Summary

Performs a variety of independent and complex laboratory work and experiments. Analyzes and interprets data, compiles results, and prepares reports. Maintains inventory, ordering, and logs. Writes manuscripts and grant proposals and prepares data visualizations.


Essential Functions

The lab tech must be comfortable handling, breeding, and euthanizing mice for sample collection and will be trained to genotype mice. The technician will perform variety of laboratory experiments such as tissue sectioning, histology, and molecular techniques, and will be responsible for testing and troubleshooting experimental protocols with the help of the PI, The lab will also be involved in manipulation and analysis of microCT date. Tech will be involved in the analysis of data and reporting to the PI for manuscripts and grant applications. The tech will manage ordering, procurement, and receiving of lab supplies and regents; operate and maintain laboratory equipment for job functions; keep detailed, accurate, and timely data and logbooks; and organize document results. The tech will be expected to welcome students in the lab, and be respectful and collegial member of the shared CCR lab space.


Physical Effort

Moderate physical effort required:

May be required to stand/move for several hours at a time.

May be required to move objects up to 50 pounds with or without assistance of equipment.
