Engagement Coordinator



The Global Studies Center (GSC) within the University Center of International Studies (UCIS) is seeking an Engagement Coordinator. This position plays a vital role in coordinating educational outreach programming in GSC. As a core member of the UCIS Engagement team, the incumbent will coordinate educational outreach programming that bridges K-16 teachers, students, and the wider community with our area and academic centers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Academic Outreach: Oversee and implement a range of center-led outreach initiatives, including organizing model UN simulations, faculty workshops, and collaborative projects with local cultural organizations. Develop strategic partnerships with K-12 educators and institutions of higher learning to enhance global studies curricula. Coordinate outreach efforts that align with the goals of UCIS, ensuring comprehensive engagement across diverse educational platforms.

  • Evaluation and Assessment: Design, implement, and analyze assessments to measure the effectiveness of both center-specific and UCIS-wide outreach programming. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to track outcomes and prepare detailed reports that inform future initiatives and funding proposals. Conduct language proficiency assessments when relevant and facilitate internal assessment activities with other Engagement Coordinators.

  • Teacher Training & Educational Outreach: Develop and conduct professional development workshops for K-12 teachers, focusing on innovative pedagogical strategies, including Foreign Language Across the Curriculum initiatives. Coordinate the UCIS-wide Educators Advisory Board, fostering a community of practice among educators. Create and disseminate educational resources and materials that support curriculum development and enhance global studies instruction.

  • Budget Management: Assist in preparing and monitoring the annual budget for outreach activities, ensuring alignment with funding sources and strategic objectives. Maintain accurate records of expenditures and provide financial reports as needed.

  • Grant Writing and Funding Proposals: Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop compelling grant proposals that secure funding for outreach and engagement initiatives. Stay informed about funding opportunities and trends in global studies education.

  • Representation and Networking: Serve as an outreach representative at local, state, and national conferences, enhancing the visibility of UCIS programs. Build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders, including educators, community organizations, and other universities, to promote collaboration and resource sharing.

  • Additional Duties: Engage in UCIS-level discussions and projects, contribute to strategic planning, and undertake other responsibilities as assigned to support the mission of the Global Studies Center.

Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of experience in a K-12 setting is required.
  • Bachelors degree is required; Master’s degree in a relevant field strongly preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, networking, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in a world language (in addition to English) is a plus.

Essential Functions
  • Plans, develops, and executes complex, comprehensive community engagement plans.
  • Maintains a continual presence at community events, faith-based organizations, and meetings with community stakeholders.
  • Develops engagement workflow integration strategies and an engagement calendar of community events in collaboration with staff and providers.
  • Plans logistics for community events and identifies volunteers.
  • Trains staff, interns, volunteers, and community ambassadors and amplifiers on the program.
  • Provides community engagement mentoring to staff participating at community events to ensure messaging is consistent across community engagement activities.
  • Tracks the impact of engagement efforts and recommends changes in methods, sites, and resource needs to support community ambassadors and stakeholders.
  • Engages in fundraising to support community engagement programs and activities.
  • Creates informational and marketing materials for potential donors. Assists in maintaining a database of donors and donor communications.

Physical Effort

The position primarily involves office-based activities, including planning and coordinating outreach programs, which require minimal physical exertion. However, the role may involve occasional travel to events and meetings, necessitating the ability to lift and transport materials or equipment up to 25 pounds as needed.
