If so, we are looking for you, our next Embedded Software Engineer to work in San Diego, CA as part of a small team to design and develop, integrate, and test embedded software.  From our Space Sensors Engineering Design office in San Diego, California, Leidos provides responsive, cost-effective InfraRed (IR) Payloads that are hosted on satellites in earth orbit.  You will have an opportunity to experience and learn about all phases of the product life cycle from concept development and detailed design through integration, testing, and post-delivery support. You will be hands-on in the implementation and testing of embedded software and hardware, and firmware, on a variety of platforms including FPGAs, microcontrollers, microprocessors, GPUs, and mixed signal designs.  The ideal candidate must be a self-starter with experience in embedded systems, and will thrive in a learning environment that encourages leadership and technical growth.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform software development in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams, in one or more of the following areas:
    • C, C++, VHDL, Verilog, assembly.
    • Communication protocols such as: UART, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, CAN bus, etc.
    • Xilinx FPGA and SoC families and design tools (RFSoC, Xilinx IP Cores, AXI4, AXI-Stream) .
    • RISC microprocessors architectures (ARM Cortex, Microblaze, PowerPC, RISC-V).
    • Memory architectures, types, and caching.
    • GNU/Linux and developing kernel drivers.
    • Embedded operating systems (Linux, VxWorks, Integrity, FreeRTOS, uC/OS-II).
  • Design, develop, troubleshoot, and debug software source code using modern software programming languages and tools.
  • Perform testing of developed software modules and support configuration of the source code, documentation, and test configurations.
  • Implement using Agile development tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Gitlab/Git to manage work and collaborate with your teams.
  • Provide / author technical documentation, participate in design, code, and software peer reviews.
  • Ask ‘Why’.  And ‘How’.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Electrical / Computer Engineering from an ABET-accredited university with a GPA of 3.2 or higher.
  • Minimum two years of experience programming in C / C++.
  • Minimum two years of experience on Linux systems.
  • Hands-on development experience with embedded system software.
  • Experience debugging software and troubleshooting software related issues.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET clearance. (U.S. Citizenship is required)
  • Ability and willingness to work onsite in San Diego, California.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant technology or engineering field.
  • Familiarity with one or more RTOS (e.g., Green Hills).
  • Familiarity with software version control tools (i.e., Git, GitLab, etc.).
  • Prior embedded software or systems internship experience.
  • Current DoD SECRET clearance.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $53,950.00 - $97,525.00
