Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Chaplain demonstrates caring relationships that are the foundation of effective Pastoral Care. The Chaplain achieves this by nurturing spiritual health and healing to aid in building healthy communities. The Chaplain will achieve this goal by being attentive to the spiritual needs of patients, family members, staff, and volunteers of ARMC in order to enhance the delivery of quality patient care.

The Chaplain provides pastoral care and counseling to patients and families, responds to spiritual support requests, and acts as a liaison with the patient's private clergy. The Chaplain develops and presents staff and community education regarding sensitivity to the spiritual concerns of patients/families. The Chaplain is also available on site during business hours and on call for pastoral emergencies. Pastoral Care department members will share off hours and vacation coverage responsibilities as a commitment to collegiality.

This position supports organizational goals by providing Service , participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to Teamwork and cooperation. Integrity and Respect are foundational to the work of a Chaplain.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of theology; minimum one unit of CPE or equivalent educational experience required; Master's degree preferred.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Ordination or licensure required.

EXPERIENCE: Prior experience in counseling required. Prior experience working with patients and families dealing with life threatening illness and/or death, preferred. The qualified chaplain is certified and in good standing with a pastoral cognate group recognized by the Coalition on Ministry in Specialized Settings or the Joint Commission or has documented equivalent in education, training, and experience, with evidence of relevant continuing education.

Demonstrates the technical competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury.
