Alfred State College is seeking a full-time Associate Director of Admissions.

The successful candidate will:

  • Effectively assist with the management of the operational, administrative, and personnel aspects of the Office of Admissions
  • Act for the Director as required
  • Assist the Director with developing, implementing, and evaluating recruitment and admissions strategies in accordance with meeting campus-wide enrollment goals.
  • Manage members of the admissions/recruiting staff, providing supervision, training, and development
  • Assist with developing event/visit strategies to target each stage of the enrollment funnel (recruitment, selection, yield) for assigned populations. Additionally, assist with developing an event/visit strategy that engages associated key influencer groups (parents, school counselors, etc.)
  • Assist with developing and monitoring statistical reports to enhance recruitment strategies, yield management, forecasting, counselor targets, and operational efficiency

As a senior member of the Enrollment Management team, the Associate Director will contribute to efforts related to planning, policy & procedure development, quality assurance & effectiveness, and budget & team management.

The Associate Director will:

  • Assess current practices, and propose and pilot new, technology-enhanced and data-driven admissions approaches.
  • Provide content direction and effective coordination of communication projects in collaboration with our Marketing and Communications department as well as other stakeholders.
  • Assist with coordinating and implementation of first-year and transfer recruitment activities and projects, including assisting counselors with targeted programming and yield activities by geographic area to support recruitment.
  • Coordinate and oversee the recruitment and enrollment yield of students.

In close consultation with the Director, the Associate Director will:

  • Manage ongoing strategic initiatives to ensure enrollment meets expectations.
  • Develop and execute a student-centered, customer service-oriented strategy for cultivating relationships with prospective students from lead generation through registration and matriculation.
  • Prepare a recruitment schedule for assigned territory.
  • Travel on behalf of the college for recruitment and other college-related events
  • Review applications and interview prospective students
  • Oversight of special programs within the Admissions Office that will be assigned based on the candidate's strengths and experience as well as the office's needs



Job Requirements:

Minimum Education, skills, and abilities:

  • Master's Degree
  • Significant experience in admissions and/or other special area of responsibility is required as is experience as a manager or supervisor.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Creative, innovative, and results-oriented
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Ability to work as a team member as well as the confidence to work independently
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed
  • Strong work ethic
  • Valid driver's license required.

Preferred education, skills, and abilities:

  • Experience working in a college setting with diverse student populations
  • Involvement in implementing successful recruitment and marketing strategies in a territory management model
  • Knowledge of and experience with SLATE and Banner or other admissions databases and Student Information Systems
  • Knowledge of SUNY and Alfred State
