Overview

The technical writer has a crucial role in creating top-notch and user-friendly electronic documentation that helps customers efficiently operate and maintain JBT's automated equipment and software products. This position involves composing and revising different types of content, such as Manuals, Service Bulletins, training documentation, ISO work instructions, specifications, and other deliverables accessible to both internal and external customers.



Responsibilities

Requirements:

This job involves creating technical documents such as operation and maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and training materials. You will need to analyze data and choose the appropriate writing style, syntax, and grammar for both print and digital formats. You will also gather information from various sources to create documentation. Additionally, you will attend planning and coordination meetings to understand customer requirements and produce technical illustrations and graphics.

  • Technical Publications
    • Provide custom maintenance and operation manuals for robotic AGV customers.
    • Provide the same documentation in the target language for overseas customers.
    • Monitor all Engineering Change Notices to determine drawing updates.
    • Provide manual updates to existing documentation.
    • Track manual delivery schedules for US and overseas projects.
    • Maintain and update standard manual content.
    • Develop new manual content for new sensors/components/functionality.
    • Prepare for and participate in Internal/External ISO 9001 Audit
    • Provide documentation and software translation estimates for new jobs.
  • Sales and Marketing Publications
    • Create and distribute Safety Bulletins for customer base.
    • Take photos of custom equipment built in Chalfont.
    • Provide photos and data for case studies and spec sheets.
    • Edit photos of each vehicle for use in website, marketing, and documentation
    • Provide content for the newsletter.
  • Engineering Publications
    • Create Lock Out/Tag Out or other in-house safety procedures as needed.
    • Provide detailed calibration procedures originating from Engineering.
    • Create custom labels and final artwork as needed.
    • Facilitate host and vehicle software text string translation.
    • Participate in Safety meetings to provide input.
    • Provide drawing quality feedback.
    • Track Engineering changes for manual updates.
  • Customer Care Publications
    • Provide updated engineering documentation as required.
    • Provide part number and vendor documentation for legacy AGV systems.
    • Provide calibration procedures as required.
    • Provide Service Bulletins as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Technical Writing, English, or related field
  • 5+ years’ experience in technical writing, including creating new content, rewriting existing content, and editing copy.
  • Excellent writing skills with attention to detail to clearly convey procedures, processes, user-focused instruction, etc., in an easy-to-understand format for a variety of audiences.
  • Enthusiasm, dedication, and a passion for technology
  • Detail-oriented with an understanding of the importance of accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and to enjoy learning new technologies.
  • Ability to work with Engineering to create and update existing documentation.
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite, specifically Word and Adobe Photoshop
  • Experience in the machinery manufacturing industry a plus.
  • Experience documenting industrial equipment preferred.
  • Experience in technology, computer engineering/IT, technical writing, or related field with technical experience. General knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical engineering concepts is preferred.

  • This position requires the ability to work well independently and within teams to successfully complete work within established deadlines.
  • Must be able to effectively manage time to balance competing priorities while maintaining professional working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.


Qualifications

Work Environment:

  • Works primarily with computers in an office environment
  • Some exposure to production shop hazards, including heavy equipment, shop traffic, uneven/slippery footing, and sharp metal edges.
  • The production shop requires appropriate safety measures, such as safety shoes and safety glasses. Customer sites may require additional PPE.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequently required to sit, stand, and walk.
  • Frequent use of a computer keyboard and mouse
