We are currently recruiting for a Staff Mechanical Engineer. In this role you will perform senior-level mechanical design in support of new product development including electronic packaging design, mechanical analysis, and field test support. In addition, you will support manufacturing engineering for necessary changes to existing products including change order activities.

What you will do in the position:

  • Perform staff level design at the concept, system, and detail level.
  • Develop product concepts, mockups and engineering models related to product concepts and/or developments. Builds concepts and mockups for review and approval.
  • Design products for injection mold tooling, mechanical assemblies, and electronic packages.
  • Provide direct liaison with tooling and fabrication vendors to ensure product success, including travel to vendor facilities when deemed necessary.
  • Generate and/or instruct all necessary drawings, material lists and checks them. Documents all design work to support release to production.
  • Conduct design reviews with x-functional teams.
  • Identify design risks and mitigation approaches. Analyzes for temperature, stress, shock and vibration and performs environmental testing related to same.
  • Maintain configuration control of all engineering pre-release designs and documentation.
  • Develop and/or provide details into equipment specifications and/or reports, as needed.
  • Participate in and support field testing of products as well as design qualification/verification.
  • Provide input for mechanical product development costs and schedules.
  • Meets cost and schedule targets.
  • Accomplish selection, assessment, and approval cycle for candidate components to be used in future new products.
  • Monitor or chair design team meetings as assigned.
  • Interfaces with all HME departments as needed to complete projects.
  • Lead project teams and/or acts as functional lead for projects as assigned.
  • Provide expert technical input to peer design reviews.
  • Provide mentorship to more junior engineers and assigns tasks.
  • Support Sustaining Engineering in solving production problems caused by anything, including but not limited to design flaws/errors, modifications of products for special customer requirements and vendor-related problems.
  • Investigate customer problems as identified by Marketing, Sales or Technical Support.

What you will need to succeed in this position:

  • Proficient 2D & 3D modeling skills.
  • Technical expert in designing for plastic injection mold tooling.
  • Strong implementation skills in electronic packaging techniques including sheet metal design and machining processes.
  • Experience in thermal, shock, vibration and materials analysis and testing.
  • Advanced PC, word processing and spreadsheet skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Prior use of AX / AGILE enterprise resource planning (ERP) / product life management (PLM) tools a plus.
  • Able to reach reasonable conclusions and recommendations from limited "hard" facts in a timely manner.
  • 7+ years related field experience required
  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 10% travel may be required

Pay Range: $112,700.00 to $150,200.00 per annum. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for the role. This may vary depending on experience and other factors. Our benefits package includes tuition reimbursement; 3 weeks paid vacation your first year, paid holidays, medical, vision and dental coverage, pet insurance, life insurance, and 401K contributions.
