PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:
The Digital Operator is responsible for the set-up and safe operation of the digital printing press (Landa) and the lazer cutter (Sei) and related equipment. The operator ensures the highest quality product is produced at the lowest possible cost, while meeting or exceeding customer requirements and following company policies and procedures.


SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safely sets up and operates the machine ensuring product is produced to quality standards and customer specifications while minimizing waste and increasing productivity.
Consistently follows all Safety Procedures and engages in various safety related activities to improve workplace and product safety.
Reads and evaluates job tickets; identifies and selects correct substrates for each job.
Monitors production throughout the run, making adjustments as necessary and maximizing run speeds.
Responsible for troubleshooting equipment, making minor adjustments, completing basic repairs, and performing preventative maintenance.
Evaluates and ensures quality, color control, color standards, and correct scoring for all items produced.
Works closely with Customer Service, Sales and Customers to ensure print and production standards are being met to customer expectations.
Completes all required quality checks to ensure product meets all physical and visual requirements.
Operates material handling equipment to move loads in and out of work area; completes pre-flight checklist and ensures all tools and raw materials are ready and set up for jobs.
Actively participates in customer demonstrations including press checks to showcase capabilities and educate others.
Analyzes, troubleshoots and corrects potential drying, curing or cutting/scoring problems that arise.
Recommends optimal strategies and ideas for efficient use of materials, equipment and scheduling.
Communicates job specific information to internal customers.
Actively stays updated on technology and/or system upgrades and industry trends; assists in evaluating and updating the department's Standard Operating Procedures as necessary.
Operates Spectrophotometer during make-ready and run on digital press; works with color curves to achieve desired color on each production run.
Tracks and inventories all consumables and completes necessary paperwork.
Maintains a clean and orderly work area at all times.
Provides support as needed in other departments to ensure customer and business needs are met.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent; minimum one year experience in an operations / production role; machine operation experience is preferred; Knowledge of print and color management is a plus; must have experience and a working knowledge of computers utilizing technology or production software; mechanical aptitude and skills required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide both fractions and decimals, solve equations, read a tape measure, and have an understanding of both standard and metric measuring systems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, regularly required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with arms and hands. Frequently is required to climb, balance, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequently lifts/moves up to 40 pounds. Must be able to perform these functions for a minimum of 8 hours straight (with a 30-minute meal break any other applicable breaks during the shift) on a regular basis. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team member successfully performing the essential functions of this job. Regular attendance and reporting for work on time are necessary requirements as is availability for overtime work if necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Exposure to a dusty atmosphere with loud noise, which will require both eye and ear protection. Moving mechanical parts will also be exposed; safety guards have been put in place for the safety of all Team members but during set up, the machine must be broken down and reassembled to complete the next job. Questions regarding such operation should be directed to your supervisor as they arise.
