Job Title: Feeder/Packer Gluing
Department: Finishing Department
Reports To: Supervisor

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:
Safely feed/pack product unglued/glued on the machine to acquire quality product at the desired target speed of each run.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITY:
Feeding consists of removing blanks from a pallet, checking for quality of product, and placing them into the feed hopper of the gluer machine maintaining the hopper at proper load heights
It will be the responsibility of the feeder to observe the blanks flowing through the machine and watch for quality and jam-ups, and to alert the Operator of problems or stop the machine
The feeder will notify the Operator before a new pallet of blanks is needed maintaining adequate blanks into the hopper to ensure there is no interruption in run speeds
Packing can consist of one or two persons depending on the product and run speed of the carton produced
A packer will fill a corrugated case with the proper case count by picking up the blanks and placing them uniformly into the case ensuring proper fit, and notifying the Supervisor of any issues
Maintain quality standards by learning defective characteristic for products, sorting defective parts, and communicating with Machine Operator, Supervisor, and Quality Control staff
Participate in teamwork: work with others to improve operations, reduce waste, maintain lean manufacturing goals and requirements, answer questions, and communicate with other staff as needed
Cross train by rotating to different machines and work areas
Pack cartons according to work order instructions by verifying counts, weighing cartons, and following job ticket and labeling instructions
Adjust to and follow new procedures and innovations, which would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation
In accordance with our 5S system, maintain a clean work environment including the machine, floors, desks, and fans
Effectively utilize any machine downtime (not including approved breaks) by performing other tasks associated with maintaining a clean work environment or as otherwise instructed by a supervisor

AUTHORITY: Must have the ability to lead others that has been placed with them to execute the demands of the operation efficiently and to respond to oral instructions from the supervisor and other written instructions.

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have basic computer skills and possess ability to utilize software.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide both fractions and decimals, solve equations, read a tape measure, and have an understanding of both standard and metric measuring systems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, regularly required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with arms and hands. Frequently required to climb, balance, twist, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, frequently must lift/move up to 25 pounds. Must be able to perform these functions for a minimum of 8 hours straight (with a 30-minute meal break any other applicable breaks during his/her shift) on a regular basis. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team member successfully performing the essential functions of this job. Regular attendance and reporting for work on time are necessary requirements as is availability for overtime work if necessary.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Exposure to a dusty atmosphere with loud noise, which may require both eye and ear protection in some areas. Moving mechanical parts will also be exposed; safety guards have been put in place for the safety of all Team members but during set up, if a machine must be broken down and reassembled to complete the next job, questions regarding such operation should be directed to your supervisor as they arise.
