Description:

Texas Biomed is searching for a motivated Staff Scientist I to join our team. The Staff Scientist I utilizes specialized expertise to provide high level support to research projects and functions as a study director to ensure compliance with standards set forth by the FDA Animal Rule or GLP regulations.


The Role:

  • Designs and conducts independent research and/or contract studies
  • Under the Direction of the Director of MCCR, prepares research results for publication or contract reports.
  • Participates in quality control activities and may function as a study director.
  • Prepares and/or contributes to grant and contract applications.
  • Maintains records of all tests performed and data to ensure data quality and integrity.
  • Perform studies at BSL3 and BSL4 biocontainment.
  • Develop reports of results, graphs, charts, tables, etc. of research findings
  • Responsible for literature and library searches related to specific projects
  • Independently write manuscripts for scientific journals
  • Present research findings as needed
  • Mentor technical staff, graduate students and post-doctoral fellows on projects, techniques and protocols


Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Requires a Doctoral Degree (e.g., Ph.D., M.D., D.D.S., or equivalent) from an accredited college or university. The required major is biology, chemistry or related life sciences. Requires three or more years of job specific experience in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience working at High containment laboratories
  • Experience preparing grant and contract applications
  • Proficiency in responsibilities relative to project or management tasks
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks with different priorities
  • Ability to make independent decisions
  • Ability to dissect problems with strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to accurately plan, define, and manage project tasks
  • Capable of working with multi-disciplinary teams
