Description

MELE Associates requires a Senior Civil/ Structural Engineer to join the exciting nuclear security mission of the Department of Energy (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) as subject matter expert. NNSA’s Office of Design and Construction (NA-92) under the Office of Infrastructure (NA-90) has responsibility for providing design and construction oversight of our large and complex nuclear and non-nuclear capital line-item projects. The candidate’s primary focus will be providing design and construction expertise and oversight in the area of Civil/Structural for these capital line-item projects. This individual will play a key role in the modernization and maintenance of NNSA’s complex infrastructure, ensuring all structures meet stringent safety and security requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Review civil and structural design of new construction and renovation projects within NNSA facilities.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and agency regulations pertaining to civil and structural engineering.
  • Participate in project reviews as a civil/structural engineering subject matter expert
  • Support assessments of infrastructure to ensure structural integrity and safety.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with contractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure mechanical design meets requirements.
  • Serve as a technical advisor on civil and structural engineering matters, providing recommendations and guidance on best practices and innovations.
  • Coordinate and develop briefings and reports.
  • All other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in civil or structural engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
  • Expert knowledge of seismic analysis and design criteria for nuclear and non-nuclear facilities. Proficient in use of major national consensus codes and standards related to steel and concrete structural design as well as international building code provisions related to civil/structural engineering analysis and design requirements.
  • Experience with ASME Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1) quality program for design of safety related/safety class structural systems
  • Experience with design for natural phenomena hazards including tornadoes, hurricanes, floods etc.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency with industry-standard engineering software for structural engineering analysis
  • Willingness to travel as required for project needs and site visits; less than 25% travel
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Expertise in structural modeling and analysis software such as ANSYS, GT STRUDAL
  • Experience working for a Management and Operating (M&O) contractor at DOE/NNSA sites

LOCATION: This is a full-time onsite position in Albuquerque, NM, USA

  • Telework options are available with a requirement to be in the office at least three days a week, based on the level of in-person meetings and office needs.

SALARY: Salaries are determined based on several factors including external market data, internal equity, and the candidate’s related knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
