Lead & Learn from the Heart: A Social Emotional Program

Overview

The salary range for this position is $5,893.33 - $7,425.33 per month depending upon qualifications and is non-negotiable.

Under general supervision performs the more difficult professional casework services; provide specialized services; provide consultation services to subordinates, graduate students and other staff.

We are looking for a dynamic social worker with a desire to work with children and families at Rosa Parks Elementary School, which is located in the vibrant community of City Heights. Join us in supporting the students of Rosa Parks Elementary School to maximize their educational attainment and their life outcomes. We utilize the Random Acts of Kindness Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum to support both the students and their parents. SEL requires a two-generation approach, so you will have the opportunity to work with both the students and their families.

The Rosa Parks Elementary School social worker (MSW) coordinates student services through the school’s social work program, an integral part of the Lead and Learn from the Heart: A Social Emotional Learning Program. The candidate will actively provide assessment, individual and group counseling, and case management. The candidate will ensure services are effective and maintain a positive relationship with the school and community agencies.



Responsibilities

PROVIDE COUNSELING/THERAPY 50%

  • Assess students for mental health issues and complete intake process with students/families
  • Provide individual, group, and family counseling.
  • Provide referrals to resources and case management to students and families.
  • Provide crisis intervention.
  • Develop relationships between home and school, and with health and social service programs.
  • Facilitate support groups on topics such as self-esteem groups, social skills, anger management, etc.
  • Provide prevention and awareness activities to the entire school community.
  • Provide SEL presentations and activities to the entire school community.
  • Provide classroom presentations on prevention related topics.

PLANNING/SUPERVISION 25%

  • Create a welcoming and joining climate for all multi-ethnic and linguistic parents
  • Serve as a field instructor with SDSU’s School of Social Work.
  • Collaborate with the SEL program to coordinate support services for students and parents.
  • Collaborate with existing school programs and other agencies to coordinate support services for students.
  • Collaborate with other school staff to coordinate support services for students.
  • Attend monthly social work meetings.

DOCUMENTATION/DATA 15%

  • Monitor quality and timeliness of program documentation, provide input to program management on programmatic issues.
  • Assist in implementing a yearly needs assessment.
  • Responsible for data collection, evaluation, measurement of outcomes of social work programs and services.

COMMUNICATION 5%

  • Provide a social work perspective and advocate for students in meetings such as the Problem Solving Team, Attendance Action team, and other multidisciplinary teams.
  • Coordinate community agency resources on school site.
  • Assist parents to access and sustain community resources and services

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED 5%



Qualifications



  • 3 or more years of professional social work experience
  • Master's Degree, preferably social work, public health, counseling or education
  • Registered with California's Board of Behavioral Sciences as ACSW or ACSW in progress
