Job purpose The Director of Advancement plays a pivotal role in fostering and nurturing relationships across the diverse communities within the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. This leadership position reports to the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) and is responsible for strategically directing and implementing comprehensive advancement initiatives to support the mission, programs, and services of the Archdiocese. The primary focus of this role is to cultivate meaningful relationships with stakeholders, donors, pastors, parish staff, and various community members to advance the Church's mission and secure financial support for the Archdiocese's initiatives. Duties and responsibilities Spiritual & Strategic Relationship Management: Develop and execute a strategic plan for cultivating, maintaining, and expanding relationships within the Archdiocese's network, including donors, parishioners, volunteers, and community leaders. Collaborate with the Archbishop, Vicar General, Regional Vicars, Archdiocesan Leadership, Consultant Support, Key Volunteer Stakeholders, the Planning Commission, clergy and lay leaders, in defining and refining the process for pastoral planning. Collaborate with the Strategy team to shape a renewed focus on the brand of the Archdiocese and local parishes, including a focus on training and growth of all personnel. Fundraising and Development: Lead fundraising efforts by identifying potential donors, creating compelling campaigns, and organizing events to generate support for the Archdiocese's programs and initiatives. Facilitation, Collaboration, Communication: Collaborate with internal teams, clergy, and external stakeholders to effectively communicate the mission, goals, and impact of the Archdiocese. Develop clear and persuasive messaging to engage and inspire support. Facilitate numerous engagement sessions with priests, deacons, lay ecclesial ministers, religious, archdiocesan staff, parishioners to authentically engage the People of God towards the renewed vision of the future of the Archdiocese. Donor Stewardship: Reevaluate and Implement stewardship programs to recognize and appreciate donors to help ensure their ongoing engagement and commitment to the Archdiocese's mission. Develop long-term strategies for advancement, set measurable goals, and regularly evaluate progress. Prepare comprehensive reports on fundraising activities and outcomes for leadership and stakeholders. Leadership and Team Management: Provide leadership, guidance, and support to the advancement and strategy teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment. Recruit and supervise a team of parish concierges and administrative support staff in the Secretariat for Parish Services. Recruit volunteers to serve as facilitators for parish sessions. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field; advanced degree or certification in Fundraising, Nonprofit Management, or a related discipline preferred. Proven experience donor relations, or advancement within a nonprofit, preferably within a religious or educational institution. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and inspire a diverse range of stakeholders. Demonstrated commitment to the mission of the Roman Catholic Church and deep familiarity with archdiocesan and parish structures and a thorough understanding of Catholic parish life and ministry. Working knowledge of relevant Canon law desirable. Strong strategic planning and project management abilities. Demonstrated leadership and team management experience. Understanding and appreciation of the mission, values, and teachings of the Catholic Church. Passionate about fostering relationships and engaging communities. Working conditions Expected to be present if at all possible at donor/fundraising events that may occur outside of typical work hours. Some nights and weekends may be required for additional meetings. Physical requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tool or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear.
