General Duties:


Provides outreach, online content creation, and strategic communications services in support of the College of International Security Affairs (CISA). CISA works with and supports the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), Special Operations/Low-Intensity Conflict (SO/LIC), DSCA, NDU, and other educational opportunities from within the DoD and externally through Congress, other United States Government (USG) agencies, the media, and other key stakeholders. The contractor(s) shall provide administrative and communications support. Create online content, help brand the College, publicize CISA-sponsored events/engagements on social media, interview alumni and IW thought leaders, create marketing material (i.e. graphic design), manage public website, and edit monthly newsletter. Create and execute project/event milestone work plans and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements. Effectively apply methodology and enforces standards to minimizes risk on overall effort. Ensure event documents are complete, current, and stored on SharePoint appropriately.

The National Defense University (NDU) was established to consolidate intellectual resources and provide joint higher education for the nation’s defense community. The NDU is a strategic national resource that prepares senior leaders to think and operate effectively at the highest levels in an increasingly dynamic, complex, and unpredictable international security environment. It does this by preparing them to understand, develop, and employ strategies that incorporate all elements of national power.


Specific Duties:


  • Establish and maintain a close, pro-active working relationship with (OSD) SO/LIC, RDFP, NDU, and other educational opportunities from within the DoD and externally through Congress, other USG agencies, the media, and other key stakeholders.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret qualitative and quantitative data from leadership, faculty, staff, students, and alumni through interviews and historical documents; interpret data trends and other statistical results in consultation with college leadership and stakeholders.
  • Craft written correspondence/descriptions worthy of publication (internal and external to NDU), including but not limited to online, i.e., social media.
  • Prepare, coordinate, compile, review, and edit reports, articles, request for information and other documentation.
  • Compose all final documents in the style, tone, and syntax consistent with the quality worthy of publication.
  • Support the research and writing of government personnel.
  • Edit, maintain, and manage the consolidated reports repository of consortium work products on a government site (designated SharePoint site) to provide continued access to these reports and other relevant documents. Maintain correspondence/publish material repository for management and historical reference.
  • Support/coordinate the compiling, reviewing, and editing of report responses.
  • Assist in the sharing of reports and other related and supporting documents with OSD-SO/LIC and RDFP.
  • Support international outreach engagements with strategic communications needs; travel will be required (i.e. on-site interviews, event visuals, photography, etc.)
  • Design and edit online content to include short videos, interviews, event highlights, faculty research publications/media updates, for social media, etc.
  • In coordination with university lead, perform other assigned duties.


Experience and Skills:


  • Two years of recent work experience as an Editor, Graphic Designer, Marketing, Online Content Specialist, Communications Specialist, or similar field.
  • Mastery of the English language.
  • Experienced with Microsoft toolsets or equivalent, including Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Adobe, Canva, and other relevant tools.
  • Critical thinker with problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent writing ,proofreading, photography, and video editing skills.
  • Good time-management skills.
  • Team player.
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of international relations, irregular warfare, military science is a plus.
  • Sense of ownership and pride in their performance and its impact on RDFP’s success.


Required Education:


  • A bachelor's degree is required in a field related to this position such as International Relations, English, Journalism, or Communications.


Salary Range: $70-80K
