This position will float between Good Samaritan and Emanuel Medical Center Campus'.



Responsibilities

Responsible for patient care within an assigned department/unit and participates as a member of the health care team in cooperation with and under the direction of the clinical manager or designee as defined by the relevant Standards and Scope of Practice for the Registered Nurse. The RN Staff Nurse assesses, analyzes, plans, implements and evaluates patient care following established patient care standards for Legacy Health System including those for patient assessment and transfer.

The Cardiac Stress Test RN provides professional nursing support and service for patients, functioning with a high degree of knowledge, skill and
experience in cardiovascular care that is applied to achieve optimal outcomes through critical analysis, problem solving and decision making. The
primary role of the Cardiac Stress Test RN is to supervise the administration of cardiac stress testing. Cardiac Stress test includes Exercise ECG
Testing, Stress Echocardiography and Stress Radionuclide Cardiac Imaging

To be successful in this role, the Cardiac Stress Test RN must:

  • Be competent of exercise testing requires significant cognitive knowledge and understanding of cardiac disease states. This includes knowledge of but not limited to: cardiovascular and exercise physiology, including hemodynamic response to exercise, appropriate indications, alternate physiological cardiovascular test, prompt recognition and response to complications.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with health care team members across multiple disciplines and departments (i.e., nursing, rehab, pharmacy, imaging, ED, etc.)
  • Prioritize work and effectively manage time with minimal supervision.
  • Possess Advanced cardiac and vascular assessment and EKG skills.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organization skills
  • Demonstrate ability to promote positive interpersonal relationships and patient centered work environment.

General Accountabilities and Essential Functions:

  • Prepares charts for procedures, clarifying inconsistencies or omissions that could cancel or delay the procedure; begins the general admission history and medication reconciliation; coordinates the admission, doing pre-procedure teaching and providing a smooth transition to the unit.
  • Coordinates and provides moderate sedation for inpatient and outpatient Transesophageal echo and cardioversions.
  • Independently performs Tilt Table Studies and submits to Electrophysiologist for reading.
  • Independently performs Echo and Vascular IV contrast injections per standing orders as requested.
  • Independently supervises and monitors all modes of Stress Testing following all guidelines and protocols.
  • Triages and assesses outpatients who develop symptoms of chest pain or other distress. May need to take patients to the ED or notify PCP for further orders.
  • Serves as resource to physicians and caregivers.
  • Provides nursing services/medication administration for patients in the radiology/interventional/GI department(s).



Qualifications

Education:

As required by licensure. BSN or degree in progress strongly preferred. BSN may be required for specific assignments; experienced RNs without a BSN may be hired based on clinical experience with approval of the site CNO.

Experience:

3-5 years of expertise in the care of patients with cardiovascular disease required in one of the following areas: progressive care, critical care, emergency department, or cardiac cath lab. Experience must demonstrate advanced knowledge of cardiac disease, the cardiovascular and pulmonary system as well as independent thinking, clinical judgement and ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability of positive interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, patients, families, physicians and the community.
  • Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions.
