Job Description Job Description The Senior Accountant is an integral role within the accounting department with a focus on day-to-day general ledger accounting. Key responsibilities include producing periodic and timely financial reports, maintenance of adequate accounting records, establishing and maintaining a comprehensive set of internal controls, enhancing the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensuring reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). In partnership with the Controller and the Assistant Controller, the Senior Accountant will evaluate opportunities for process improvement. This position reports directly to the Assistant Controller. ( This is meant to be a guide. Duties may vary dependent upon management.) Essential Position Functions: Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger to support full-cycle accounting in a company with a high volume of transactions across multiple ERP systems. Ensure all financial statements are issued in a timely manner and in accordance with GAAP. Develop and maintain account reconciliations, taking ownership to identify and action reconciling items. Support the Balance Sheet review for Chief Financial Officer, Controller, and Assistant Controller. Evaluate accounting and business processes and make recommendations to strengthen controls and streamline processes to accomplish month-end close in three (3) days. Ensure proper intercompany transaction accounting, including proper intercompany eliminations are made in consolidation. Understand underlying transactional activity in the general ledger. Provide accurate and reliable analyses and reporting to management and other Finance team members. Support varying audits and tax reporting, including financial statement audits by lenders, external auditors, and tax teams, and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements. Review inventories and ensure proper accounting by establishing proper reserves, including LIFO and obsolescence reserves. Travel offsite as ‘internal auditor’ for physical inventory counts as needed. Ensure proper accounting for fixed assets, supporting the Assistant Controller in establishing best-in-class processes for fixed asset record keeping and accounting. Collaborate with stakeholder teams to develop necessary analysis and documentation in a cooperative way, communicating effectively and efficiently with managerial and executive teams. Build and strengthen relationships with other departments, including sales, operations, customer service, and IT. Support Assistant Controller in assessing implications of new accounting pronouncements to the Company and help lead implementation of new pronouncements. Design and perform ad hoc reporting, collaborate with other finance team members to align reporting for management. Other duties as required. Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree is required. A degree in Accounting or Business Administration is preferred. Certified Public Accountant designation preferred. Five years or more of related experience required. Experience in manufacturing and/or distribution is strongly preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interface with customers at all levels, both internally and externally. Well organized and self-directed; excellent organizational, analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Consistently perform with a high level of efficiency and accuracy. Must be able to efficiently use a Windows-based computer with advanced Excel skills. Demonstrated abilities using ERP systems to provide and obtain financial and operational information. Must have intermediate Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook) skills. Ability to prioritize and complete assignments accurately and in a timely manner; able to effectively handle multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment. Must have excellent knowledge of GAAP. Must be able to read and communicate in English for safe and effective performance of the job and business operations. Must be able to work alone, and with a team. Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
