Position Summary:

The Assistant Director of Communications is responsible for management and editing communications efforts targeted to both internal and external university constituencies. The position requires leadership of selected publications as well as content generation for the university's overall strategic messaging, development of electronic communications, specific stories and other assigned special projects as directed by the Chief Communications Officer. This position reports directly to the Director of University Communications, however, works closely with the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer

Duties & Responsibilities:

C ore responsibilities include serving as editor for content created within the Division of Communications and Marketing; remaining current on Associated Press, A-State and other style guidelines utilized for university messaging; creation of original content creation, both long and short form; and providing social and media monitoring for internal planning and research uses.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Qualifications for this position include, but are not limited to: strong written and verbal communication skills, strong ability to edit and manage publications, creative thinking ability, strong organizational skills, self-motivation, the ability to work without close supervision, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to formulate and execute strategic development communications plans. Computer skills in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, media monitoring systems, and advanced social media applications competency.

General Days/Hours:

Typically Monday-Friday
8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Occasional nights and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a higher education environment focused on social media or strategic communication content generation.

Minimum Qualifications:

An Earned Bachelor's Degree in journalism, strategic communication, or a related field plus experience within either mass media or university communications.

Must submit three writing samples from portfolio to be considered
