Admissions and Recruiting Counselor



The Admissions and Recruitment Counselor is primarily responsible for coordinating a variety of admissions and recruitment efforts for various programs within the School of Education. The incumbent will assist in the planning, development, and implementation of student recruitment activities that include but are not limited to: Serving as a representative for the School of Education at various off-campus graduate and career fairs locally, regionally, nationally, and globally; Assisting in the organization of and participating in numerous on-campus recruitment events such as information sessions and open houses. The incumbent must be comfortable and skilled in communicating with domestic and international prospective students and applicants through a variety of mediums such as phone, email, and online (Skype, etc.). Such communication efforts are central to the success of the position. In addition to communicating with students, the candidate must also be confident and comfortable in working with faculty and other members of the staff and administration. This position will assist the team and school faculty with the review of program prerequisites and application files. The position requires a considerable amount of data-related reporting and, as such, the incumbent will be expected to demonstrate their capacity to complete reports as directly related to various admissions, recruitment, and retention efforts for the School of Education. The incumbent is ultimately responsible for managing the continued growth and success of the assigned programs and processes as primarily measured through recruitment and admissions reporting. Master's degree is preferred.

Job Summary

Represents the University in new student recruitment and participates in the evaluation of applicants. Participates in recruitment activities and projects, both in and out of state.


Essential Functions

• Oversees and coordinates all day-to-day operational aspects of the functional area. • Develops and implements strategies to recruit a diverse pool of potential applicants. • Corresponds and interacts with prospective students, applicants, University alumni, guidance counselors, and others seeking information on admissions standards, academic and non-academic programs, and student activities following established procedures and precedents. • Determines student applicants’ admissibility to the University and resolves complex problems as necessary. • Travels within and out of state for recruitment activities such as conducting information sessions at high schools, community colleges, and college fairs within the state and on campus. • Assists with coordinating admission of students to educational programs of the University. Conducts on-campus interviews of prospective undergraduate, graduate and transfer students and their parents. • Reviews documentation of undergraduate, graduate, and/or transfer students to ensure completeness of applications. Monitors progress of applicants. • Coordinates processing, mailings, and other related documentation. • Serves as a lead for other staff and student assistants. • Participates in or coordinates activities on special projects as assigned by the supervisor to accomplish established objectives.


Physical Effort

The job is primarily computer/office based. May require the transport of recruitment materials to various on-campus and off-campus events. Both national and international travel required. Traversing to various offices on campus required. Computer work, verbal, and written communication is required.
