Description:

Scope & Purpose:

The position performs complex or specialized accounting work at the technical level. Work involves accounting and fiscal management for a mid-sized agency and leadership for specialized accounting functions. Performs full range professional accounting duties for assigned accounting function(s).


Essential Functions & Duties:

  • Audit supporting documentation and prepare invoices for vessels entering the port district. Invoice customers for off-site facilities charges.
  • Compile and review monthly water usage reports and bill corresponding tenant accounts.
  • Verify cash collections from off-site facilities and prepare journal entries to record.
  • Audit incoming cash receipts and prepare journal entries to record.
  • Assist customers with billing questions and the interpretation of the rules and regulations established by Port Tampa Bay's Terminal Tariff
  • Perform collection duties of Port Tampa Bay customer accounts.
  • Facilitate month-end closing of Accounts Receivable.
  • Support on special departmental and port-wide projects including the annual audit and ACFR.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Essential Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Must have knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Must have knowledge of accounting and financial reporting requirements, month end close process, internal controls and audit process.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Dynamics GP accounting software or other ERP software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to use discretion and independent judgment in evaluating information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, confidently and professionally with PTB officials and employees, PTB tenants and the general public, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to reconcile financial accounts and records.
  • Ability to maintain files and records and prepare reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work independently.
  • Must possess honesty, integrity and sound professional judgment.


Requirements:

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements:


  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance or related field; and
  • Two or more years of experience as a professional accountant or experience directly related to the position duties, including General Ledger experience;
  • Or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies listed above.

Special Requirements:

  • Incumbent must possess a current and valid Florida Motor Vehicle Operator's License or capable of obtaining one within thirty days from the date of hire.
  • Must successfully pass a seaport security background check.


Work Environment:

Work is performed primarily indoors though the employee will be required to go out of the office on errands. Employee will be in contact with chemicals (i.e., toner for copier and facsimile machines), and materials (i.e. paper) normally found at offices. Employee will also be exposed to minimal noise and vibration.


Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel

objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Frequent computer use.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
