Overview

The Buyer/Planner is tasked with making inventory replenishment decisions based on system projections. They are required to gather data to support packaging changes, location changes within assembly, and to support the kitting of purchased materials. Customer support to assembly team members and any support areas within production. This is necessary to ensure finished goods are produced as scheduled to meet the customer’s requirements.



Responsibilities

  • Coordinate day-to-day activities to maintain scheduled production requirements.
  • Receives and reviews requisitions requesting goods or services.
  • Expedites orders and requests as needed within the 3 facilities managed by the Ripon operations team.
  • Communicates with vendors to obtain product or service information, such as availability and delivery schedule.
  • Procures materials or other goods and/or coordinates activities involved with purchasing products and services, such as raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, and supplies, for establishment.
  • Maintain the computer records for supplier data, effectivity dates, and other relevant entries.
  • Support production team members & suppliers with a sense of urgency using clear & timely communication methods. Making phone calls when urgent answers are needed, developing relationships with team members and suppliers. This will include walking to the shop floor and traveling to visit suppliers on occasion.
  • Maintain and present on daily expedites to materials department and purchasing group.
  • Work to continuously improve processes, maintain inventory integrity, and utilizing space constraints.
  • This role has significant interaction with all levels within operations and partners with safety, procurement, logistics, human resources, engineering, and quality departments.
  • Coordinates logistics to ensure product arrives on time to meet schedules.
  • Collaborates with business partners on vendor management to meet business needs.
  • Evaluates and provides recommendations for buying strategies to manager.
  • Help evaluate vendor performance/impact on business outcomes.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications



Knowledge/Experience/Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in operations management.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a medium/high volume manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with lean tools and concepts.
  • Understanding process control and production scheduling is a plus.
  • Demonstrates a core value of respectful treatment of all team members in every discussion, interaction, and decision.

Skills and Abilities:

  1. Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  2. Excellent oral and written communication skills, basic solving and troubleshooting ability.
  3. Works independently with general supervision.
  4. Ability to function well in a high-paced and, at times, stressful environment.
  5. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Physical Requirements:

  • Position involves sitting for long periods, standing, manual dexterity, stooping, bending and minimal lifting.
